Friday, February 15, 2008The fun part of the day began with cabbing down to watch Sweeney Todd! (After chucking my laptop at home and stowing away a tub of ice cream at his place.) Sweeney Todd was gory for the first few murders but it got bearable after a while, especially since we ended up discussing where the artery was supposed to be. I wonder if we really have that much blood inside of us that will spurt out when the various blood vessels at the neck are cut. Anyway there was lots of bright red blood splurting out like some glorious fountain, especially towards the later part of the show. But my most favourite discovery was that Johnny Depp sings! And quite well too.. X) Despite watching such a gruesome movie, getting lost around clarke quay/chinatown area after not getting down at the right stop did quite good job of getting my appetite back. I discovered that we can actually take 174 to Red Star restaurant! The only way I knew how to get there before was by (my dad's car). Oh well, dimsum treats soon! My sense of direction was also working exceptionally well yesterday. -beams- Walked to The Central for dinner where it was surprisingly more crowded than usual where we had dinner at Ma Maison (= my house). Cosy little place which serves japanese-western fusion food and had people queuing outside before it even opened for dinner service. o.O Forgot to take pictures of the food (hence quite a few of them were koped from other sites) but the decor is quite cute and the way they get you to pay is quite unique too. They give you this key and tag like some hotel room thing which you bring to the counter to pay. Maybe it was the items we ordered, but I didn't like my main course that much. The scallops appetiser was nice though, the sauce was a bit sourish and tangy which is great for whetting your appetite. And they had little bits of fish/crab(?) roe on top of the scallops which is always fun to eat. =) The condiments that came with the tonkatsu set were quite fun to play with and apparently the sauce for the vegetables is not bad. The miso soup was chock full of ingredients like radish, meat and onions too. Natural vege sweetness =) The pot for the sauce reminded me of Winnie the Pooh's honey pot.. =X
After more walking to relieve the fullness, we walked down to Riverside and decided to get a drink. I was mildly encouraged after the wine exhibition at the auditorium that there was nice liquor out there. (dessert wine!) But I guess ALL liquor is bitter in some form or another and though the Golden Ale I ordered was much much much much much much much less bitter and easier on the palate than the Hopback Ale he ordered, I think I've still yet to find something I really like and would order again ((and again) and again). =S
Anyway I had a great time yesterday, though people selling flowers by the river kept trying to get me/him to buy some. And we discovered that flower prices drop very quickly after about 9 or 10plus. ($2 per stalk and a free 4th stalk with every 3?) Fell asleep on the way home too, long bus ride + alcohol + school day. Slept very well last night, =) anyway... |
